Please note that most of these concerts are for charity and the organising group may be independent of the venue chosen.

The Sydney Welsh Choir is always happy to entertain visitors or potential new choristers (male and female) at its practice sessions. These are held most Wednesday evenings at 7.00pm at the church hall of Concord Baptist Church, Carrington St, Concord (North Strathfield) just off Concord Rd near the end of the M4. This is one of the most accessible places in the Sydney metropolitan area; some choir members come from the Central Coast, Blue Mts, Campbelltown, Northern Beaches and Sutherland Shire.

In 2006 the choir will be undertaking its fifth UK tour in 16 years, travelling via Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium to England and Wales. On our last tour we sang with such famous choirs as the Vienna Male Chorus, and in such magnificent venues as Canterbury Cathedral and the Madeleine in Paris. New members will be eligible for the generous choir discounts applying to such unforgettable tours.

For information on concerts or membership, please email me on [email protected] or phone me on 02 9997 2019.

Dylan Thomas Society (Sydney)

THE DYLAN THOMAS SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA

At the recent AGM of the Dylan Thomas Society the new committee for 2005 was elected as follows:
President - Clive Woosnam
Vice President / Secretary - Ross Southernwood
Treasurer - Meg Hayward

The other members of the committee are Susannah Fullerton, Rosslyn Rix, Helen Woosnam, Kay Hardman, Anne Fisher, Annie Schlebaum, John Notary (Public Officer) and Will Christie. Though Will’s university commitments have prevented him standing for President again, he will continue to edit the society’s newsletter, Down Under Milk Wood.Events planned for this year include:
Fri 15 April: The Legend & the Poet
Sun 26 June: The Outing (to Swansea)
F ri 19 Aug: The Dylan Thomas Lecture
Thu 27 Oct: The birthday celebration

The big news from the meeting is that, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the society, THIS YEAR’S MEMBERSHIP IS FREE!
So, all you Dylan Thomas fans, this is your big chance to be part of the only literary society in Sydney with such a clear Welsh link. Please email [email protected] if you would like to join, or phone him on

9997 2019.

Dear Member,

We have an unusual event at 7.00pm on Friday 19 August at the Rugby Club, Rugby Place (just off the Northern end of Pitt St). Instead of having the Dylan Thomas lecture, we are trying to use the new evidence available to discover the real cause of his early death in 1953. Four presenters from the Society will be putting forward four different hypotheses to a panel of experts who will then give their findings. Members of the audience will also have a chance to make their choice from the evidence presented. It should be an absorbing evening, ending (for those not in a hurry to get home) with something to eat and drink nearby.
