a case of fine views, fine food and of course fine singing
on the evening of Friday 3rd December as the British Consulate
General at Circular Quay was temporarily rendered Welsh territory
for the Sydney Welsh Choir's annual reception for Friends
of the Choir.
The walls were all but painted red, with
pride of place belonging to the massive (Welsh flag) stretched
across the width of the room and the cwrw was flowing freely.
The murmur of conversation, much of it
in Welsh, filled the room and was only hushed when the members
of the choir gathered round to sing the old favourites,
with the quintessential icons of New South Wales, the Harbour
Bridge and Opera House, forming the backdrop.
The sounds of Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah,
Ar Hyd y Nos, Calon Lan and Men of Harlech brought back
a flood of memories, giving the occasion a joyous mood.
Among the guests were the new British
Consul, Tim Holmes who supplied a drop of Breconshire Ale,
Geraint Rees, Jacques Rennay a startlingly good Tom Jones
lookalike and federal MP and enthusiast of the choir, Bronwyn
Bishop.
The choir's registrar and coordinator
of special events, Sheila Rule, said the reception, which
has been held for the last fifteen years, aims to bring
